Delivered from an old Turkic word for “bag/sack” (könök) Könökçek is a symbol of companionship for nomadic people of Central Asia.
Also called “Turnip-bear”, they live under the earth in intricate cave systems. They are mammals born out of eggs, which first blooms a flower that connects them to Sky Gods, as the legend says. They usually run into humans by chance but follow the humans for the rest of their lives, for some unsolved reason. Könökçeks are commonly known as “Sack-friend” in folklore. Highly friendly and calm, they are told to have a soothing effect for troubled minds, and known to ward off evil spirits when one’s asleep.
